We all make mistakes. Some mistakes, they’re great party stories. Other mistakes are embarrassing and make you blush. And some are really serious and costly. But some of the most costly mistakes people make are in their spiritual life.

See, our spiritual life determines the whole direction of our life, and a lot of people end up going the wrong direction in life, and that leads to a lot of regret. Thankfully, our Bible tells us how to avoid most spiritual mistakes so that we can live this meaningful, fulfilling and purposeful life where we can help others.

So in order to avoid making spiritual mistakes, we’re going to point out HOW we make spiritual mistakes.

That’s our question today: How do we make spiritual mistakes? Our answer is:

  1. By listening to lies.
  2. By ignoring the truth.

“The Meaning of Life” – Tim Nguyen

So today, I want to ask the biggest “why” question of life.

Why do we live? In other words, what is the meaning of life?

Different people have different answers. Some people say there’s no way of knowing. Or, it means what you make it to mean. But our Bible passage gives us a more satisfying answer! And it’s an answer that motivates us to live a life that is meaningful, effective and enjoyable. Even the most mature Christian needs to apply this answer to their lives better.

How can we be efficient at life? To be efficient at life, we need an efficient mindset.

  1. Be single-minded in your lifestyle, and we can do this by planning our time and checking that our plan makes sense with our relationship with God.
  2. Be open-minded in theory, and we can do this by following the evidence where it leads, which not only helps us to find the truth, but we can help others as well.

How do we know that we know God?

  1. To know God means to see the goodness of God, so practice your mind and eyes to be aware of his grace all around.
  2. To know God means to mirror the goodness of God, because nothing else makes sense to a person who knows God. To mirror God’s kindness, justice, and righteousness is the most rewarding lifestyle a Christian could have.

Jeremiah: A Story of Perseverance – August 30, 2020

Jeremiah 1:4-8

This week, we’re starting a new series in the book of Jeremiah. And if you’re curious about the timeline, Jeremiah actually takes place before our Nehemiah and Esther series, and it puts us right before Daniel. Right before Babylon takes over Judah. So we’re going a little bit backwards but that’s ok. Think of it as a flashback. Jeremiah’s a book written to people like you and me. People meant to have a relationship with God in hard times. See, our hero of our series is Jeremiah. And he will show us what faithfulness looks like in times of hopelessness.

It’s a story of perseverance. Where he loves and obeys God and yet there is no successful results. But God was deeply pleased with him and blesses him for his faithfulness. And we learn something valuable from that! That sometimes, even when we do what’s right, the result may be more trouble but making pleasing God is our best chance for our own happiness.
