Sometimes life can be disappointing. It feels like we’re stuck on a huge detour, and sometimes we’re unsure with where we’re headed. And it feels like no matter what path you take, there’s this underlying feeling of uncertainty and disappointment. The Bible tells us that we don’t have to live this way. That there is a path we can take to get to a right and satisfying place in life.

How do we get to the right place in life? And the answers we’ll be exploring is:

1. Give credit to God
2. Obey God promptly

Titus: Building Community – August 29, 2021

Today’s message marks the conclusion of our sermon series on the bbok of Titus.

The story of your life is the lens by which you see all things. Tell yourself the wrong story, and your life will go the wrong direction, committed to useless things. But if you have the right story, a right way of seeing life… then you can be confident that you are living your life well.

With that said, our focus today is this:
“What is the story of every Christian?”

Ecclesiastes: Our Culture’s Wisdom – July 4, 2021

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

As Pastor David mentioned last week, the teacher in our Bible passage gives us a wide scope of worldly wisdom. And in his worldly wisdom, he says life is vain, or even meaningless. But then he says, despite his pointless and confusing life, it’s still better to be together.

So for us, as Christians who don’t believe that life is meaningless, how much more important is it for us to seek community and teamwork? So this writer’s worldly wisdom is even more valuable for us because we believe its effects will last forever.

Ecclesiastes: Our Culture’s Wisdom – June 20, 2021

Ecclesiastes 2:10-11

This week, we’re starting a new series in the book of Ecclesiastes.

The narrator of the book goes through a bunch of different aspects of life and then concludes, “it’s all fleeting so therefore it’s pointless.”

Meaningless. Vain.

Today, we get to take a quick look at what he says in regards to chasing pleasure. Our big question today is: what is the point of worldly pleasure?

My big idea today is: worldly pleasure is a means to an end.

The Sermon on the Mount – May 23, 2021

Matthew 5:38-42

We all know that conflict is a big part of life. We all have people we disagree with, and we all have people who hurt us. These conflicts range from annoyed glances between strangers, to full on wars between countries. How we handle those disagreements and hurts makes a ton of difference.

Our Bible passage today will teach us the best way and the Christian way, and perhaps the hardest, but also the most rewarding way.

Our big idea today is that in conflict we need to be willing to lose in order to win.

Abraham: Living by Faith – March 28, 2021

Genesis 17:10-12

What are signs that you have a right relationship with God?

Religion is full of invisible stuff, and it’s hard to know. There are a lot of contradicting opinions out there. Some people say you must have supernatural spiritual gifts (for example: the gift of tongues) to be considered a Christian. Others say it’s just impossible to know any of this spiritual stuff is real. However, as Christians we NEED to know because we are betting our life on this relationship with God. Our Bible passage helps us understand two signs that help indicate that you are right with God.

The right life is:
1. Undivided
2. Unusual

We’ve been following the life of Abraham, a man who God has chosen to save the world by turning them back to God. In our previous sermon in this series, we saw that God makes this huge promise to empower Abraham with a big family and lots of land, allowing his family to be this huge force in living out God’s mission.

However, after all these promises, God asked for something from Abraham in return. A badge. A symbol.

The Book of James: Disciplined Living – January 24, 2021

James 1:26-27

When it comes to things that you bet your life on, you don’t want to depend on counterfeit things. This is especially true with our religion. Just like all things, there’s a real Christianity, and there’s a knock-off Christianity. We see it in movies and TV shows, Christians who are judgmental jerks, or Christians that raid and burn buildings and promote violence and anarchy in the name of Jesus. That cannot be the Christianity that Jesus had in mind.

Occasionally, you come across Christians who are unbelievably courageous. They’re on a whole different level. William Wilburforce, for example, ended the slave trade in the British empire. Orr Dietric Bonhoeffer, who resisted the Nazis and almost succeeded in killing Hitler. That Christianity is worlds away from the one we see in the media. One, you admire and the other, you despise, And rightfully so.

So our question today, what is real Christianity? In our passage, we’re going to see that real Christianity lives out an extreme commitment to following Jesus by doing good. We see that in two points:

  1. Real Christianity avoids causing harm.
  2. Real Christianity excels in doing good.

Where do we find hope when nothing goes our way?

  1. We find hope in God’s PLAN – God is working, and he has given us a role in his plan — to make the most of what he has given us.
  2. We find hope in God’s PROVISION – So we give thanks for the nice things, but also, for the difficult things because both are intended for our good.
